Tamiya
has introduced a photo etch set to go along with their 1/24 scale
Porsche 962C kits. Now there are already a couple of PE sets
for
this model kit out on the market, so what could Tamiya offer?
Tamiya effectively duplicates the work of Studio 27 in some
cases
with their PE set in that they offer cross drilled brake discs
and
new fuel buckeyes amongst other elements (and the S27's kits offerings
are much more detailed). Tamiya does include the center
cockpit
divider in photo etch with the weight lightning through-holes actually
drilled through (unlike the plastic part contained within the kit).
But given how easy this would be to replicate in plastic (the
through-holes that is), what's the point? A nice touch is the
inclusion of material for creating seat belts, turned pipes to
replicate the waste gates and engine exhaust pipes, and wire for
antennas. Tamiya's PE set retails for around $16.00.
When
compared to the Studio 27 kit at the same price, I'd be tempted to go
with S27.
