The "Southgate" side inlet panel that first appeared at Le Mans 1996 as part of the Scandia-developed LM kit. The exit from the trailing edge of the wheel well is larger and leads more directly to the cooler inlet itself. In turn there is more side splitter area exposed. This modification produced less drag for increased downforce. |
Some
Ferrari teams ran a dorsal fin on the rear engine cover. This trend
actual came from Indy Car racing circles. In theory, in yaw
conditions, a vortex is shed of the top of the dorsal fin helping to improve
downforce on the rear wing.
